My Eulogy for my brother, Dr. Eugene Conti

Eugene… a brother, a husband, a son, an Uncle, an exceptional Emergency Room Physician, an author, a self-man man, a Renaissance Man, ‘Mr. Wonderful, ‘Sunshine/Sonshine’ and affectionately the name ‘Piccione/pigeon’ by our mom every morning. All the wonderful childhood memories I have of my only brother and oldest sibling in our family growing up. Fun times playing board games; teaching us girls the game of Chess; going through the ranks of Boy Scouts of America and becoming an Eagle Scout at 18. Altar boy at Sunday Mass; doing his daily bicycle newspaper route; doing all the athletic games and sports in our neighborhood along with his friends and classmates while in school and at home; being invited all the time to various social functions when a teenager and even a Debutante Cotillion! Being a lover of Biology and Oceanography as a college student at St. Johns University. Being voted President of the St. John’s University Glee Club by his peers. Being respected and loved by his North Babylon High School students where he taught High School Biology. Loving automotive mechanics and all his cars especially the racing ones. Graduating medical school and then coming back to New York City for his medical residency. Moving to the state of Virginia in 1982 to start his medical practice and be near his cherished nephews and niece and family. Being a great husband of 27 years to his wife Barbara and enjoying great times motorcycling, RV trips, church events during their marriage. Being a devout Catholic and having a deep faith in God and our Blessed Virgin Mary. Being an exceptional Emergency Room Physician for all his patients and dedicating his ‘life’ to save those who came in 24/7 to his Emergency Room daily and treating everyone with love, tenderness and compassion. That is my brother, Dr. Eugene Conti’s legacy. Now you are sharing Heaven with our Mom and Dad and we will be praying for and to you every day as you watch over us. God bless you, my dear brother. You will be missed so much. We will always be together in our hearts, minds and souls. ‘Brothers and sisters are ‘peas in a pod’, ‘bumps on a log’, ‘bugs in a rug’, ‘birds of a feather’, ‘partners in crime’ and ‘friends forever.’ ‘Sibling relationships flourish in a thousand incarnations of closeness and distance, warmth, loyalty and trust.’ We forever love you.

Love Your sister, Carla
